Isotopes from pollution and those that occur naturally are used to evaluate the processes that govern pollutant concentrations. The relative proportions of plutonium (Pu), cesium (Cs), thorium (Th), lead (Pb), and radium (Ra) isotopes trace interactions between pollutants and the water column as well as flushing of the Arctic waters by currents.
