Statistical analysis of LATEX data indicates that wind direction and intensity (dark arrows) largely determine the direction and intensity of shelf currents 10 meters below the surface (light arrows). Upcoast winds in the summer (top) result in upcoast currents, while downcoast wind in non-summer periods (bottom) cause downcoast currents.
