Awards

Carole Current was sponsored for her Ph.D. in physical oceanography by TIO.

Anthony Lyons won the '94 IEEE-OES Oceans student poster competition and was invited to present "Modeling Acoustic Volume Backscatter from Two Shallow-Water Marine Environments by Side-Scan Sonar" by Anthony Lyons, Dr. Aubrey Anderson, and Thomas Orsi.

Thomas Orsi won the '94 IEEE Oceans student poster competition and was invited to present "Geoacoustic Characterization of Shallow-Water Marine Sediments for High-Frequency Applications" by Thomas Orsi, Dr. Aubrey Anderson, and Anthony Lyons.

Marilyn Smith Yeager was awarded the Oceanography Graduate Council Service Award.

Gert van Dijken was awarded the Fellowship in Remote Sensing from University of Maryland and NASA to conduct research at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center

Charlie Barron and Ed Shaar presented "Formation of Coastal Jets in the Texas Current" at the Second Thematic Conference, Remote Sensing for Marine and Coastal Environments in New Orleans, LA.

Paula Bontempi and Carrie Neuhard presented "Spring Hydrography and Phytoplankton Distributions along 94W on the Gulf of Mexico 1992-1994" at the National Marine Fisheries' Mortality Incident Workshop in Galveston, TX.

Carole Current presented "Vertical Structure Functions for a Ventilated Ocean" at the '94 AGU Meeting in Baltimore, MD.

Yungkul Kim and Eric Powell presented "Long-Term Changes in the Distribution of Perkinsus marinus in Gulf of Mexico Oysters, a Product of Climatic Cycles?" at the '94 Annual Meeting of the National Shell-Fisheries Association, Charleston, SC.

Thomas Orsi presented "Bubble Characteristics in Gassy Sediments" at the Gulf Coast Association of Geological Societies convention, Austin, TX.
