Quarterdeck 2.2
Chemical and phase speciation of a metal ion in ocean water. Metal ions can be involved in differing potential interactions and partioned among various pools in aqueous systems. Assessment of environmental damage and judgement of the effects of heavy metals on the ecosystem depends on the ability to quantify metals' residences in each form. Organic molecules can greatly affect the ways in which metals are removed from water as well as affect the bioavailability and toxicity of heavy metals to aquatic organisms.
